Afghanistan has and always will be a land defined by its rich sense of ethnic and religious pluralism. The NRF believes that in order to preserve, protect and defend the rights of all Afghans, we must strive for a decentralized government in which the provinces and districts grant authority and legitimacy to the central government in Kabul - not the other way around. Throughout the centuries, Afghans have time and again proven that they refuse to settle for a status quo-imposed upon them by external and internal forces, and we are committed to bearing this fact essential in the formation of our new governing entity.
We believe that the greatest beauty of Afghanistan lies within the mosaic of its richly diverse society. Whether Tajik, Pashtun, Hazara, Uzbek, Sunni, Shia, Sikh or Hindu, it is imperative that we recognize and appreciate the differences between us, but also come together to contribute to our collective ambition for peace, freedom and justice within our lands. Through a common-sense decentralization of power, we may achieve a future in which Afghanistan maintains its vibrant pluralism and exists in harmony with itself.
Although that ill-fated day of September the 11th is now twenty years behind us, we must not fall victim to a short sighted logic that forgets the true perils posed by radical extremism. The War on Terror is not over. Today, the NRF remains as the last true bastion of resistance against newly emboldened branches of state-sponsored terrorist cells taking root in the country and seeking to do harm far beyond Afghanistan itself. Unlike Las Vegas, what happens in Afghanistan hardly ever stays there, and we at the NRF are committed to remaining engaged in the fight against these malicious ideologies founded upon nothing more than despair and destruction.
In stark contrast to the Taliban regime’s perverse and sadistic interpretation of Islamic doctrine, the NRF adheres to a form of so-called “Rational Islam” based upon long standing notions of morality and ethics founded within the Hanafi school of Islamic thought and the Shiite schools, which are deeply embedded within centuries of Afghanistan’s history, culture and traditions. Unlike our barbaric and repressive enemies, we sanctify human life and cherish the gift of liberty.
The fall of Kabul in August of 2021 was no sporadic or unpredicted event, but rather the culmination of 20 years of corrupt, inept and inhumane bureaucrats quietly siphoning the future of Afghans away for their own gain. Such a precipitous fall of the nation’s capital was simply nothing more than a direct reflection of a longstanding structural decay in the country’s institutions and the people’s confidence within them. For far too long the people of Afghanistan have been stripped away of their dignity while the highest levels of government live in opulence and excess - this can and will come to an end. The people of Afghanistan deserve a nation and environment in which they are able to attain well-paying jobs, feed their children, take control of their future and lead a dignified life. In creating a brighter future for Afghanistan, the NRF stands unwaveringly committed to placing the interests and wellbeing of the Afghan people front and center to its operations.
At the core of the NRF’s mission stands our unwavering commitment to the elevation of women’s rights and human rights at large within Afghanistan. There exists no greater demonstration of the Taliban junta’s vile ideology than their treatment of women, girls, activists, minorities and dissidents. Such flagrant violations of international law and basic instinctual decency run counter to all that we hold true not only as Afghans, but more importantly as human beings.
We cannot and should not allow the tremendous achievements of the past twenty years to slip past us as the Taliban begin their onslaught into confining women to the domestic sphere. The NRF is committed to upholding the rights of women and girls to pursue their education, seek professional development, and above all individual fulfilment in their lives. In the unapologetic pursuit of our people’s elevation, we hold true that freedom of the press and freedom of expression are the cornerstones of maintaining accountability over our elected officials. The NRF stands proudly in defence of these liberties.
